3 What about that medium format film magic?.2 Comparing Pentax and Carl Zeiss lenses.I mention it only because it was the first time I was able to shoot the 100/2.2 wide open in bright conditions using 1/4000 shutter.Medium format film camera showdown: Contax 645 vs Pentax 645NII - EMULSIVE Close Search for: A pricey choice, and film is not an option.

Until recently, I used a HC100/2.2 on a Leica S2P … which is a dual shutter camera and allows leaf shutter use of any Hasselblad H lens using a fully functional adapter from Leica … then with a flip of a switch, can be used as a focal plane camera with any H lens for shutter speeds to 1/4000. The Contax 80/2 is a discontinued item with service available from a third party provider as long a parts are available, the HC100/2.2 is still current in the Hasselblad line-up, and is serviced directly by Hasselblad. Optically, I prefer the 20mm extra reach and compression of the 100mm, and at f/2.2 it is comparable to the 80mm at f/2 in terms of controlling DOF/Bokeh behind the subject.Īll of the HC and HCD lenses have been profiled for DAC corrections and those corrections are available in Adobe LightRoom. So, if you plane on working mostly in available light, especially bright sunny conditions, then the HC100/2.2 may frequently run out of shutter speed forcing you to stop down or use a ND filter (more or less depending on film speed).

The Contax 645 is a focal plane camera with shutter speeds up to 1/4000, but is limited to 1/125 sync speed. The HC100/2.2 is a leaf-shutter lens and has a top shutter speed of 1/800 on the H camera … which means it also will sync with strobes up to 1/800. The largest difference between the two lenses/camera systems is not optical, but instead functional. The H AF includes a feature that micro adjusts AF when stopped down to compensate for focus shift. The H system AF is definitely more advanced, hunts less in low light, and is faster more accurate in general. The HC100/2.2 and Zeiss-Contax 80/2 are AF lenses. The older H1, H2, H3D, H2F cameras are AF and take film backs … and the Contax 645 is also an AF camera. The only H camera with TF from the H4 onward that takes film backs is the recently announced H5X ($$$$). If by "AF on the H system temps you", you mean the True Focus APL, then you need to be aware that TF is only available on H cameras from the H4 onward. I've owned both systems and used both the lenses you are considering.
